We like to call the Bunch Bike the minivan of cargo bikes. That's because you can bring along your kids, your dogs, your groceries - and a whole lot of gear!
Many of us bike around with not just passengers but also strollers, scooters, wheelchairs, folding tables - and of course, other bikes.

For smaller bikes and scooters
Smaller bikes can easily be strapped to the front panel of your Bunch Bike using our simple, inexpensive haul straps.
Haul Straps are the best way to carry any of the following items:
- Backpacks and beach bags (up to 4)
- Bikes under 20" (up to 2... 3 if they're small)
- Scooters (up to 3)
- Folding umbrella strollers (1)
- Beach chairs (2)
The towing challenge
Haul Straps become a less practical solution for bikes around 20" or 24". That's because a longer bike becomes a really wide load - not safe for other bikes and trail users!
When your towed bike hits 24" you definitely need to switch to towing rather than strapping. A Bunch Bike makes it super easy to tow a child's bike, because your bike stays stable and upright at all times.
We sometimes also find ourselves carrying other bulky cargo via rear rack or pannier carriers. Sure it will fit in our Bunch Bikes up front - but if it's huge (like a trifold science fair poster) or fragile (like a glass bottle of milk) or awkward (like a suitcase) sometimes it's more convenient to put it "in the trunk," especially if carrying a full load of passengers at the same time.
Bakkie Bag or Tow Monster?
We offer two different products that can be used on the rear rack to tow other bikes and carry bulky items. They're both great - and very different!
The Bakkie Bag is a fantastic French product that can be adapted to fit almost any size and shape of load. It straps onto your rear rack in seconds and includes an integrated bag that's great for "normal sized" items (a folding potty, a glass jug of milk, a bike pump.)
The Bakkie's major innovation is a "sling" section with interchangeable straps that can be adjusted to carry a suitcase, a guitar, a car seat, a rain tent - or a bike tire! It can be used to tow a smaller bike but will require some fiddling to get the positioning just right. We've been sole US distributors for the Bakkie Bag since 2022.
The Tow Monster is designed and built by Jonah Elgart of Schleptastic in his workshop just outside Boston. It is a dedicated bike tow solution, customized for your bike's rear rack. It's quite heavy, and installation requires tools - you can't easily switch it between host bikes.
However, once the Tow Monster is installed - towing another bike becomes effortless. You can get the towed bike on and off in seconds, with no fiddling required, and you can absolutely trust the towed bike to stay put, even with rough riding and bumpy terrain. We've been Tow Monster partners since 2024!
Reasons to choose the Bakkie Bag
- Easy to install on the host bike
- Easy to switch between host bikes
- Lightweight canvas design
- Super versatile - can be adjusted to carry almost anything
- Can carry a child's bike (with some fiddling)
Disadvantages:
- Towing a bike can require fiddling with straps to get the position just right
- Sharp turns or bumpy terrain can knock the towed bike out of place
Reasons to choose the Tow Monster
- Super easy on/off for the towed bike. No fiddling.
- Extremely reliable tow, even with sharp turns or bumpy terrain
- Can tow large bikes with confidence
- Can safely back up while towing
- Can also use for backpacks or boxes
Disadvantages:
- It's heavy
- Installation on host bike requires tools
- Has to be pivoted out of the way to service the rear wheel of the host bike
The bottom line
If your main goal is towing another bike, and you want to be able to do so quickly and easily: Get the Tow Monster!
If your main goal is adding versatile cargo capacity, and you want to stay flexible: Get the Bakkie Bag!
If these both sound great to you: Get both! My bike has Tow Monster on the left side for bikes, and Bakkie Bag on the right side for everything else. If you'd like to try this - we'll spot you 10% off the combination!
