We Are Bunch Bikes

We're the leading North American cargo bike brand - and we're changing the way that families get around together!

Our Story

Aaron Powell founded Bunch Bikes after falling in love with the cargo bike lifestyle on a family trip to Malmö, Sweden in 2016.

On that trip, he rented a bakfiets (box bike) and biked his daughter around every day, just like the locals did. That special time together made their daily routine magical.

When Aaron got back home to Texas, he looked for a great-quality cargo bike that he could purchase locally for his family but found that there were no comparable US options. He made it his mission to create a top-quality, parent-tested box bike, customized for the needs of families like his, and spread the joy of family biking throughout North America.

Bunch Bikes was born just a few weeks before his second child - who's been getting around by Bunch since he was only a few weeks old.

The Bunch Bikes Story

Launching Our Company

Aaron launches the Bunch Bikes website on his laptop while walking on a treadmill with his baby son strapped to his chest in an Ergo. He chooses a direct-to-consumer model to make front-loading cargo bikes as accessible as possible for families across North America.

The Preschool

Inspired by daycare bikes he saw in Sweden, Aaron adds the six-seater Preschool layout to our lineup. It quickly becomes popular with nature schools, childcare providers and large families who have never before been able to bike together.

The K9

We partner with Bark to produce a limited edition, motorcycle-themed bike for dogs, which is featured in People magazine. Its popularity leads to the creation of our K9 model, the first American cargo bike designed specially for our furry friends.

Growth and Challenges

Our 2.0 bike model launches with major upgrades and a new frame design. The pandemic brings a surge in cargo bike demand, but we soon face severe supply chain shortages that make it difficult to keep up.

Shark Tank Success

Aaron appears on ABC's Shark Tank and makes a deal with two Sharks, Barbara Corcoran and Robert Herjavec. The episode is seen by millions, helping to introduce electric cargo bikes into the American mainstream.

To improve build quality, safety, and consistency, we commit to shipping all of our bikes fully assembled, test ridden at our warehouse and ready to ride.

The Bunch Squad

The Bunch Bike is named one of the best e-bikes of 2022 by Outside magazine.

We launch the Bunch Squad, an enthusiastic community of Bunch Bike owners who give local test rides and advocate for family biking.

More Choices

Our 3.0 model offers new color options as well as a hugely expanded range of parent-friendly accessories. Our inclusion program also adds several new adaptive seating options - bringing us closer to our goal of a practical, reliable family vehicle for all ages and all abilities.

Growing Our Audience

We launch a new partnership with Pedego, the largest ebike rental network in the country; expand our free trial program; and support several new Cargo Bike Library projects. All three initiatives help new families try the cargo bike life - and fall in love!

Meanwhile a successful community investment round allows us to diversify and future-proof our supply chain, so that we're well prepared to tackle future trade and supply issues.
