Real talk time.
I have three little kids and a full-time job.
I'm not very athletic. And it's freezing cold outside.
"Go to the gym" is just not going to happen for me in this era.
But I actually still feel great about getting more active in 2025.
Why?
Because I've figured out the secret life hack that makes staying active super easy for me - it's built into my daily routine.
Active in my real life
On Saturday I took my two older kids to their dance class and picked up groceries on the way home. In the afternoon we stopped by the library and the playground.
Totally normal stuff - none of it involved setting aside time for my personal fitness goals because, life.
Yet I was still able to set a goal for myself of 30 active zone minutes - and then exceed it. (48, go me!)
That's because getting around by bike keeps me moving all day long.
High intensity - or not
In the morning, I was cold and tired and I kept the electric assist turned up high.
I still got about as much physical activity as I would have by walking - but it didn't feel hard or stressful to do so. The ride was fun and easy and my kids were in a great mood too.
After lunch, I decided to push myself a little harder by keeping the assist level low and putting in some bursts of energy to break a sweat.
My FitBit tells me that I got in a great workout.
I didn't set aside any special time to do so. I was just getting around with my kids - and we still got where we were going.
But we arrived feeling GREAT - healthy, happy and energized - and on track to a more active lifestyle.
One weird trick 😉
Every January we're bombarded with tricks, hacks, gadgets and shortcuts that are supposed to help us get fit and active.
But in my experience, there's still no fancy substitute for the very simple act of getting yourself from place to place.
If you can start getting around by bike or on foot - you will get more exercise in a natural, sustainable way that becomes an effortless part of your daily routine.

Shoutout to Lizzy in Florida who sent in the adorable photo above - and inspired this post!
She writes:
"We're loving our Bunch Bike so far and already riding to/from daycare every day. My daughter is obsessed and I love being able to ride safely and get in some exercise at 24 weeks pregnant!
"The bike has already paid for itself in how much of a positive mood shift it's made for my toddler and me on our daily commute.
I look forward to venturing out on longer weekend adventures too as we learn the best routes in our city."
