Pre-Order Shipment Updates

Update 9/5
Great news - The factory shutdown was much shorter than I thought it would be.
They actually were back to work last Thursday (8/31), but I didn't get the message until today because we were off for the holiday weekend.
So the total delay ended up being about a week, and the bikes are supposed to ship out to us in the next couple of days.
At this point, we're basically just ironing out the shipping details with the freight forwarder, and settling up on the balance with the factory.
Looking like we'll be at mid-October for customer deliveries *fingers crossed*

Update 9/8

Factory packing for shipment. Looking like it'll get picked up Tuesday or Wednesday.

Update 9/29:

Hey guys,

Some of you have noticed that we haven't been active much on social media in the past month. The updates slowed down in here as well. Sorry about that, we're still here!

I spent most of this month negotiating and closing on the sale of my previous business. It was a very time consuming process, but now it's done, and I can turn my full attention back to Urban Tribe.

So now I need to fill you guys in!

Current status: The cargo bikes left the factory Wednesday, and are on a freighter to Houston. You can see the container getting packed in the attached pictures.

But wait, you said the bikes were ready for pick up in your last update 3 weeks ago!

Yes, they were, and we hit a few problems trying to get them out the door.

First, was that my go-to freight forwarder was completely backed up that week. They were scrambling to re-route shipments to avoid Hurricane Irma. Communication was very slow, and I was understanding and patient. It happens.

Second, their agent at the branch in our factory's city was either new or incompetent. I spent the whole 2nd week trying to get the shipment picked up, and it still didn't happen. Confusion and miscommunication, with a flip-flopped time zone difference to boot. I've never experienced anything like this with a freight company before.

The factory and I had had enough of this, and I switched to another freight company a week ago. I needed to scramble to get the bikes picked up before China's week-long National Day holiday on Oct. 1st. Switching was a good choice, as the new company had the container picked up on Wednesday, and on board a freighter last night. The cargo bikes were on their way just in time, as the country is now shut down for a week.

So, the next time I have an update, it will be to tell you that bikes are in the United States! I'm not sure if I'm going to get an estimated port arrival date, but if I do, I'll let you know that as well.
