Denton, Texas—Bunch Bikes, the leading front-loading cargo bike company in North America, announced the hire of Sarah Johnson as Chief Operating Officer.
“The first few years have been proving a concept,” says CEO and Founder Aaron Powell. “We’ve proved we can manufacture and deliver a product to customers that they love, and that there's a market for family cargo bikes in the U.S. Sarah Johnson has the industry experience to now help us scale our business despite global supply chain challenges.”
Johnson is a recent graduate of the University of Utah Executive MBA program and was previously at Specialized Bicycle Components where she served as Leader of Planning, managing global supply planning and analytics. She began her bike industry career in 2012 as a supply chain analyst at Quality Bicycle Products following a nine-year career as an actuary. In 2016 she was awarded the Cycling’s Women to Watch Scholarship to attend the Bicycle Leadership Conference sponsored by Camber Outdoors (formerly OIWC) and Bicycle Product Suppliers Association (BPSA).
“I’m extraordinarily passionate about bike commuting,” says Johnson. “There are many benefits to it, the health benefits, being connected to cities, environmental benefits. Looking at Bunch’s mission and vision, it’s very much aligned with my beliefs and values.”
Bunch Bikes’ direct-to-consumer cargo trike business, like many other retailers in the bicycle industry, has experienced increased demand during the global pandemic while also receiving national exposure from ABC’s Shark Tank as well as a split investment from ‘Sharks’ Barbara Corcoran and Robert Herjavec.
“One of Sarah’s biggest strengths is adaptability,” says Powell. “Nowhere do you need that more than in a fast growing start-up where things are changing every month. She's the perfect person to put necessary operational systems in place, and we couldn't be more excited to have her sharing this journey with us.”
